SNEC Incorporated ft. Revival Of The Earth
We chose this project because we felt that, firstly, it would be able to interest people. People who are not interested about the environment would rather play games than listen to a talk about it. So after it interests them, we will be able to bring across our message about the environment to them. We will give them examples (like in one of our games, where we give them the problems and the possible solutions) so that they will be able to do their part to save the Earth.
I think that our project is quite meaningful, as I feel that many people are not aware of the danger that Earth is in. I think that this project - creating environmental games out of recycled materials - is very useful in bringing across our message, as it makes learning about the environment much more fun. From my experience, a lot of people around me do not feel that the threat to the environment is a huge one and think that it is too complicated. They think that this is a matter which people like scientists should look into, but they are not aware that, in fact, the people who can save the Earth is actually themselves. If everyone did their part, the Earth would probably in much lesser danger. Therefore, if we put this message across by using games, people would be more interested in it, as games are a fun way to communicate by. Also, by creating the games out of recycled materials, we would not only be doing our part, but also be showing that it is possible to use recycled materials to create things, and we do not always have to buy new materials.
I think some difficulties we faced while doing this project were the date and time of our meetings, and our efficiency rate. As there are 8 of us in the group, it is very hard to find times when all of us can meet up. Thus, we chose times when most of us could meet up, and for those who could not, we gave them some work to do too, so that our workload would be equal. We would also update them on our meetings. Also, when we first started this project, we did not get many things done. At our first meeting, we spent quite some time just chatting and not working on our project. However, as time passed and after we had a few meetings, we learnt to be more efficient and did not digress from the topic as often.
I have learnt much from this project. More about the environment, the damage and harm global warming is doing to our Mother Earth, and what we can do to help save Earth are just a few examples. Not only that, I also think that this project has brought together our group members and we are now closer than before. We are working better together than when we had our first meeting, and we are completing our tasks more efficiently. Besides that, throughout this project, we have also done our part to save the Earth. (eg. using rough paper to jot down our ideas, creating the games with recycled materials)

Hello! We had 2 meetings this week
One was on 11/06/08 Wednesday.
Me (Ling Lan), Pei Shan and Chai Yi went to my house to work on the game

At first we wanted to do a board game
but in the end we decided that we should do a card game.
12/06/08 Thursday,
Me, Pei Shan, Janeal, Jane and Zoe went to Zoe's house
One of our facilitators, Jocelyn, came too.
We drafted the proposal and planned for Zoe to send it to the facilitators later.
We took some pictures, but as blogger is lagging, I'm not able to upload them.

We have to get these done by the end of the meeting, because our actual proposal is due very soon. Also, we need to take some more photos. We might also start on our A2 boards.
See you tomorrow!

During tuition today, my tuition teacher started reinforcing on the importance of having the knowledge of environment issues that are going on in our global earth. In the course of the lesson, there was this mention of carrying out an event in school which will help to create awareness in the school children. It was carried out successfully in a school in Singapore. It was a "No cleaner week" whereby the cleaners of the school would not be present for a week. Students would then be in charge of their school's cleaniness. They would then have to be responsible for the mess they create and thus they would have to clear up after themselves. Very often, it would be taken for granted that the cleaners would clean up after the students. In the event, the students would then be exposed to being responsible for their own clean studying environment. They would be able to understand what the cleaner have to go through everyday and then be more responsible in the way that they handle their waste materials.
We might want to consider executing this event in our school so to help our fellow schoolmates to raise awareness.

Our 2nd Meeting
5th June (Thurs)2nd MeetingGames suggested so far:
5)
Spin the wheel-You get to spin the wheel and you will eventually end up with a prize slot. There will be a certain amount of environmental questions, such as recycle reuse reduce or some lessons learnt from the industrial visits, you must answered before getting the prize which you had spinned the wheel at. We can have multiple choices for those questions of environmental facts.
6)
Fishing game-Firstly, we will collect rainwater and purify it before puting it with some toy fishes and garbage. We have decided to use rainwater so as to save the water for the environment. The aim of this game is to save the fish from the polluted river. Therefore, with just the use of a 'fishing rod' (we will have to make using recycled materials), you have to pick the garbage from the river. You have to open up the 'garbage' and answer the questions stated. If your answer is wrong, the 'garbage' will have to return to the river. Hence, the more questions you answer correctly, the cleaner the 'river' will be! 7)
Online game-We had realised that it may be very tedious to do an online game, so we striked out this option.8)
Throw a dart- Answer a question based on environment and you get to throw a dart to determine your prize. We may used styrofoam boxes as the 'board' and most probably recyclable pen refill ink to hit the board. We will encourage them to bring their own recyclable materials that may be able to hit the boars in order to gain the prize.*The
prizes can be sponsered by
zoe's uncle sweet factory.
We may also combine with the other team in our school, by using their
project idea which is making objects with recyclable materials. We can use the objects they made as the prizes for our games : D *
We have also decided to have an 'environment week' every month when we set up the environmental games booth in family lounge for the students to play during recess or after school. I will have to ask Ms Lee for permission to organise this. I think this idea will be feasible since our school had already organise the 'math week' before (: As for the mini environmental fair, we may organise it next year.Jane PeishanValerieTze Tsinwill do the
proposal which is due on
17 JUNE!
draft proposal is due on
12th june!!!!!!
LinglanChai YiZoeJanealwill do the
A2 board.
As for the games,
we have also come to a decision : D
JaneChaiyiPeishanLinglanwill do the
beaver game and
spin the wheel.
Tze Tsin Valerie Janeal Zoewill do the
fishing game and
throw the dart.
Each group will have to complete at least one game by
10 June!Collect as many recyclable materials as possibe to create the games!!!!

Our 1st Meeting
27th MayOur First MeetingGames suggested:
1)
'Monopoly'-Basically it will be somewhat related to the monopoly we are playing. However, we will change it to the environmental kind, eg. if you chopped down more trees, you will be fined more, and this may cause you to end up in jail etc. If you landed on the 'chances/community chest' boxes, you will be asked with questions based on envrionment such as air pollution, global warming. From here, you will know some facts on the consumers or others and this will promote the environmental awareness of the players.
2)
Who wants to be a 'environmental-aire'?-We can ask questions by levels of difficulty and of course we don't give them money but something else like objects made by recycled materials, or other things. We can ask each class every week/month, or there will be a environment week/month then we can ask them.
3)
Tic-Tac-Toe with poker cards-It will something like dai di. They used poker cards from 7 to K. Then if you've got the most number of pairs, you win the game. I am not sure about how this game goes about but we can improvise on this idea if you all are interested. This is sort of combining two games together.
4)
BEAVER GAME-This game can combine with the 1st game--'Monopoly'. One round of game will get you a log, then the first one to build a dam with the logs collected will win the game. Of course we will ask environmental questions along the way.
We can do a perhaps mini environmental fair suggested by Chaiyi.
Due to our schedule/enrichment week/assembly this year,
We may implement it to the lower secondary (sec1/2) next year.
-beginning of the year?
-during sec one orientation?
-last day of sch?
-enrichment week?
Generally, each class has to set up a stall like fiesta but in relation to the topic 'Save the Earth'. They can have interactive games, selling stuff using recycled materials and many other more. Then, we can choose the best stall or most popular stall etc.
We will also show them the games we had created for this project.
Our next meeting: 5th June-Thursday. 11am. Amk hub macs.See you then!
